The Organisation Development Company Newsletter

Greetings,

Spring is in the air, and the September winds of Wellington are making themselves known. This shift in season is apparent and has us reflecting on how we identify shifts in organisation culture and climate.

Increasingly, we are discovering that organisation developments are directly related to shifts in interactions amongst executive team members: new conversations, new approaches to interactions, new behaviours, new patterns of relationships, and new attitudes all contribute to producing and implementing change. Simply put, when executives collaborate in new ways, these new patterns of interactions are reflected deeper within the organisation.

We hope you enjoy our September newsletter.

Regards,

Diana Jones

Dominion Post Article

As the ‘organisation development expert’ consulted by the Dominion Post in a recent article on significant changes in work place culture with 25 years of computers, I had a chance to share some of my thoughts and experiences. ‘While computer technology has made fantastic inroad to accessing and sharing information, computers are an excuse to avoid the more complicated interactions of dealing with people’ was amongst some of the printed contribution.

Expanding Your Leadership Tool Kit

One of my university mentors, Allan Laidler said, ‘never put off 'til tomorrow what you can wear in bed tonight’. His encouragement to us to act in the now, and address difficulties and concerns, rather than hoping they will go away, underpins the work of the Organisation Development Company. Assisting you refresh your tool kit of methods and learning new approaches to difficult conversations is a core service we provide.

Sorting out workplace communication difficulties and conflict

Like you, we know unproductive working relationships can be quite a drain on everyone involved. Leaders we work with tell us they want to develop their abilities to work well with people when there are tricky or touchy issues in relationships, or in situations where there is conflict.

To be more effective in our work with conflict and differences within and amongst teams, Cher Williscroft from Nelson is joining The Organisational Development Company team, and will be in Wellington regularly.

Cher is available as an executive coach and for team development projects. Cher loves working with conflict and differences and has fantastic abilities in encouraging leaders to continue to build bridges in their relationships. To give you some introductory tools in working with conflict and differences, Cher is leading a lunchtime seminar on Wednesday October 11th in our offices.

The session is an introduction to working with conflict and includes a small group exercise, and will cover:

  • The role our values play in any communication
  • Understanding where conflict lies in an organisation
  • The six roles to deal with communication difficulties and conflict

A light lunch will be provided:
Weds 11th October - 12:00 to 1:15

  • 12:00-12:20 Lunch provided
  • 12:20-1:15 Working session

Enrolment fee: $22.50 (including GST)

Training Workshop on Building Cohesive Relationships

Later in November, we have a two-day training workshop for leaders who want to be more effective in working with conflict and differences in their organisations; Building Cohesive Relationships at Work -tools for preventing and dissolving conflict. This workshop will teach skills that can help those with different interests, styles, values and cultures to work more effectively with their differences. The workshop will be of value to leaders who have to work with such dynamics in their team or to anyone who aims to have more cohesive relationships.
